YCN Sports unveiled

Well, folks, I’ve got big news to announce and unveil in this week’s paper regarding YCN Sports broadcasting. I’ll opine later in this Meanderings column.

First, though, we’ve made some great progress with the school pages this last week as you can imagine, we had to work out some kinks with our pages, etc. Even though you wouldn’t see the issues, I’m happy to report that all is resolved, and we are firing on all cylinders for our school pages each week.  Our next pages to be added this year will be Custer (coming anytime) and Lockwood school pages slated for the first week in October.  Senior High School, West High School, Huntley Project and Shepherd all started their school pages last week.

I had an interesting call this week to my office.  I like the idea that was brought to me, and I was also impressed with who presented it to me. [I might tell you if Carl Wolf discloses his secret hunting spot ($1,000???.]  If this develops like I think it will, it will be yet another great addition to our local weekly newspaper.

Currently, I’m working on two other fronts this week that will be great assets and features for our growing local newspaper.

For those who went to the Huntley Project vs Shepherd Football game that went into double overtime, I was impressed with the great sportsmanship that was displayed on the field.  I was up in the crow’s nest so I had a bird’s eye view of the field and game.  The football bleachers were filled on both sides and people standing around the field on all sides so it was a full house event.

Huntley Project should be proud for winning the battle of the bridge rivalry football game on a 4th down play to punch it into the end zone while Shepherd should also be proud that their football program just played their second game of the season (under a brand new coach) and took Huntley Project into a double over time battle.

I was actually testing out some new equipment last Friday evening at the Huntley Project vs. Shepherd football game for our new online sports radio station broadcast we are announcing this week.

Yep, that’s right, we are announcing to the masses our new addition to the Yellowstone County News, in expanding our sports radio broadcast of local sports games online (AND possibly over the air.) So here’s how it works:

Go to www.YCNSports.com and click on the PLAY button. Boom. It’s that EASY!  Also, you can go on the community websites and find the online radio streams there as well.

You can listen to the games we will be broadcasting over the internet or through your phones and/or computers.

We are excited to announce this new addition as this has been years in the making from conception but now we’re in the execution mode.  It had to be the right time and this is the time to announce another piece to the puzzle.

This week, we will be broadcasting our first live Huntley Project vs. Colstrip football game Friday starting about 6:40pm.  We will have sponsors ready by then (hopefully), along with a pregame, halftime and post-game commentary. I will TRY to be the play-by-play announcer for the game from Colstrip so be patient as this will be our very first broadcast to the masses from YCNSports.com

Right now, we are going to be following the local Schools Huntley Project and Shepherd while also including Custer and possibly Skyview as none of these schools have a local radio broadcast station that is considered their hometown radio broadcast.

We are just starting small with one event at a time, but I can see this YCN Sports idea evolve into even more options with YCN being able to broadcast other local events as my mobile unit can all be used anywhere.

Let us know what you think of our new YCN Sports addition and our online radio broadcast option.  We are looking for businesses and entities that want to get their name and business out there.  Give me a call at our office or my cell phone 406-672-5941 if your entity would like to be included.  Also, give us some other ideas of what we can do to make our newspaper and business more of a resource for you, your business and our local community.

So, as we reveal a little bigger tip of the YCN iceberg with our YCN Sports broadcast, can you see it more clearly now? If so, imagine what you still CAN’T see.

Until then, see you in the paper, (or listening to www.YCNSports.com)
