Wouldn’t You Think They Would Get Their Facts straight?

Dear Editor,

Tobacco and pharmaceutical companies and lobbyists help fund the Republican State Central Committee, which recently sent a mailer promoting Dan Wilson for the Montana Supreme Court. Supreme Court elections are intended to be non-partisan according to Montana law. Instead, this lobbyist funded group is ignoring the law, just as it ignores the Montana Constitution.

If the Central Committee is going to mail such a political piece, wouldn’t you think they would get their facts straight? Their candidate was elected District Judge and began serving in 2017. The mailer says he has served 12 years as Flathead County District Judge. Not true. He has 7 ½ years of experience as a District Court Judge.

When they carelessly misrepresent a fact that is so easily verifiable as the length of time he has been a district court judge, it is not a surprise that the claims they make about his opponent are equally unreliable and false. His opponent has more than 20 years of experience as a Montana District Court Judge. Judge Katherine Bidegaray supports and defends the Montana Constitution. She has been elected four times to serve as District Judge for Dawson, McCone, Prairie, Richland, and Wibaux counties.

I am supporting Judge Bidegaray based on her experience and her commitment to the best state constitution in the country.
