Worden Fire Considers EMT Solutions

With less than five emergency medical technicians (EMT) to respond to medical calls, Worden Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) is considering proposals for third party EMT services for the Huntley Project area. On Thursday, February 6, WVFD held a special meeting to discuss potential proposals where Intermountain Healthcare could provide a 24/7 EMT service for the Huntley Project area. The meeting represents one of the first talks held with interested parties according to WVFD Board President Leif Olsen. According to Fire Chief Lance Taylor, the department has lacked volunteers for some time resulting in the department being unable to respond to some calls, resulting in EMT resources being pulled from other service areas such as Shepherd, Lockwood, or Billings. With the proposal for a 24/7 EMT service, the Huntley Project area could reap a significant benefit to its emergency response times while relying less on other departments to provide services according to Taylor. Taylor and Olsen stated that because the talks are in the preliminary stages, they are unsure when formal proposals will be made. WVFD’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 7pm on March 3 at the Worden Fire Hall.
