Two Water Board Members Resign

Two members of the Heights County Water District Board have submitted resignations.

Jeff Engel, the City of Billings’ appointed representative to the board, submitted his resignation to the City, according to City of Billings Administrator Chris Kukulski.

Dennis Cook submitted his resignation to the District General Manager Peyton Brookshire on May 9.

Engel’s four-year term would have expired at the end of 2024. His replacement will probably complete his term, according to Kukulski, who said that the city is accepting applications for the position which requires that the board member be a resident of the water district or own property in the district. The process usually requires that Mayor Bill Cole will review the applications and make a recommendation to the City Council for approval.

Kukulski thanked Engel for his service. He said that the city is interested in a collaborative relationship with the water district especially in light of “a critical time” when so many things are expected to happen in the near future such as the redevelopment of Main Street, the challenge of meeting the demand for housing and the completion of the Interchange which is expected to attract new business.

The County Water District Board will also accept applications for someone to complete Cook’s four year term. He was elected to the board in May 2021. Again, an applicant must be a resident of the district or own property in it. The district board will select a new board member from the applications received.

Those interested in the city’s appointment will find application forms at https:// ci.billings. mt.us/65/ Boards-Commissions.

To apply for the position appointed by the water district board applications are available at https://www. heightsw  aterdistrict.com/ boardofdirectors.

The County Water District Board of Directors regular meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm at the District office and are open to the public.
