Huntley-Yellowstone Water District has issued a shut-off notice for the district to take place on April 7th, 2025, starting at 7am and ending 7pm. The scheduled shut-off is required to install isolation valves for the bulk-water depot on North Canal Road. On March 23rd, Operator Sandy Kust performed pump checks on the HYWD system when she noticed a leak had developed inside the bulk-water depot building.
According to Operator Michael Moran the leak is likely to catastrophically fail and possibly cause irreparable damage to the facility due to the leak’s proximity to electrical fixtures in the building. According to HYWD there is no shutoff valves within the building or on the lines that supply the building. Moran stated that he has spent the last week preparing for the leak repair by securing contractors and a work plan.
According to HYWD, the district and Montana Department of Environmental Quality will issue a boil notice Monday evening after the water has been turned back on. The boil notice will be in response to the loss of pressure due to the scheduled shutoff. According to HYWD the boil notice may last until Friday, April 11th.
