Sincere Thanks to the Yellowstone County Commissioners

Dear Editor,

For 71 years the Yellowstone County Museum has stayed the passaged of time to preserve and protect the writings and possessions of our indigenous, European and worldwide immigrant ancestors for the enjoyment of the residents of south-central Montana. Its building and collection are assets of Yellowstone County and are overseen by the Board of County Commissioners.

The museum has survived through the grit and determination of its volunteer boards, one appointed by the county commissioners and a foundation board of local citizens. Support of the people of Yellowstone County has underpinned the museum’s existence.

The collection, nearly 30,000 pieces, has been donated by folks who appreciate the care given these priceless gifts. These artifacts become the property of the people of Yellowstone County, the only such collection to be found.

The museum is filled with meticulously interpreted displays of our local indigenous tribes, traders, nearby military encounters, weaponry, cowboys and pioneers. It displays something for everyone.

Located across from Billings Logan International Airport, it’s a perfect place to put the museum experience in context and enjoy its magnificent setting here in Yellowstone County

Sincere thanks to the Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners for their support and guidance of the museum over these many years. Their commitment to the preservation of our county owned collection, available to all with free admission, continues to be a most appreciated demonstration of unfailing respect for those people who came before us and the trappings they left for us all to enjoy.
