Republicans made America great again

Dear Editor,

“…to many conservatives the world looks like a much scarier place.” Actually, it is quite the opposite. To many conservatives America is great again, and the world looks like a much safer place.

Such is the history of the conservative Republican Party. Republican president Abraham Lincoln bravely led our nation through its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis ever. In the process, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation freeing more than 3.5 million slaves. Yes, the moral injustice of slavery was ended by a Republican president.

“Democracy is based on the willingness to assume well about other people…since those who refuse to make that assumption can never accept the argument that is made for a position they don’t agree with.” After reading this quote, I have to ask myself if the Democrats of the 1860s thought these assumptions to be correct and did they make decisions based on assumption? History indicates their decisions were hate based. Hate clouds judgment. Thus, they failed to recognize the gravity of positive historical accomplishments.

“Fear can create an unconstructive response and diminishes our dignity.” This is evidenced in history by Democrat President Franklin Roosevelt’s Executive Order number 9066 directing American citizens of Japanese descent be put into internment camps. Yes, this was a dark day in our history.

Fear and hate are not specific to any political party. To insinuate such may insinuate that your judgment is clouded by one or both.
