State troopers noticed a gray sedan-style vehicle going about 95 mph in the 55 mph construction zone of Interstate 90-East in Billings and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, according to Sgt. Jay Nelson of Montana Highway Patrol (MHP). The driver, however, did not stop and actually sped up as he approached the Lockwood exits.
Law enforcement continued to trail the suspect vehicle from I-90 to Interstate 94-East, according to witness accounts. The gray car reportedly reached a “top speed of nearly 150 mph before the driver lost control of the wheel,” according to Nelson. The car then skidded over the median toward oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes, and crashed through the guard rail near Mile Marker 7 and rolled several times down the long embankment before landing near a field just outside of Huntley, witnesses said.
