Olszewski announces run for governor

HELENA – State Senator, Doctor and former US Senate candidate Al Olszewski publicly announced this week that he will be running for the Montana Governor position that is going to be vacated by term limited Gov. Steve Bullock next year.

Olszewski, a Republican State Senator from Kalispell, was born and raised in Great Falls where he graduated from C.M. Russell High School and completed his undergraduate degree at Carroll College in Helena. He then earned his doctorate degree from University of Washington Medical School. After medical school he served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon and rapid mobility trauma surgeon.

Fixing what’s broken isn’t new for Dr. Al Olszewski. Growing up in Great Falls, he observed his father fix “broken” every day, as he worked tirelessly to provide for his family at his job.  As the oldest of seven in a third generation Montana family, Dr. and Montana State Senator Al Olszewski intends to continue his family tradition of serving his country, state and community as Montana’s Governor.

Dr. O is the third candidate to publicly declare intentions to run for Governor in what is set to be a crowded field of Republican candidates.  Montana Attorney General Tim Fox and Montana’s Secretary of State Corey Stapleton have also announced their intentions to run for Governor . Other sources have reported that Democrat Mike Cooney has said that he is considering it but has made no decision.

If Montana’s lone US Congressman Greg Gianforte decides to run for governor, it would provide a ripple effect for other statewide races and offices opening up as Gianforte’s decision would stir others to jump into the race and/or change to different positions.
