Walter Siewert

On Thursday, February 25, 2021, Walter Siewert, loving husband and father of two sons, Paul Edward and Steven, passed away at age 94.

Walter was born on February 20, 1927, in Antelope, North Dakota, to Edward and Pauline (Rebmann) Siewert whose parents immigrated from Russia. They were of German descent.
Walt’s parents moved to Billings in 1934. They eventually settled near Lake Elmo running a dairy farm and farming. Walt was the youngest of six children.

On December 6, 1959, he married Margartha Winkler. They raised two sons, Paul and Steve.

Walt grew up going to the Pilgrim Congregational Church with his parents and siblings. After he and Maggie were engaged, he joined the First English Lutheran Church,
where they were married.  They were actively involved throughout their marriage.

Walt’s dad purchased the property on Pryor Creek in 1948, and Walt moved out to the place.  Walt batched there in the summers until he and Maggie were married. It remained their family home.

Walt was preceded in death by his father Edward, mother Pauline, wife Margaretha, brothers Arthur, Albert and Clarence, and sisters Clara and Hilda.
He is survived by son Paul (Toynette), granddaughters Christina, Tana, Mandy, Charlee, Tegan, Devin and grandson Rory, 32 great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren; and son Steven (Michelle), grandsons Spencer and Jacob.

Walt was a 4-H leader for 24 years serving the Shepherd Pioneers and Huntley Eagles. He was on the PCA Board of Farm Credit and the Huntley Project School Board for two terms. In the 1970’s he was one of the first ranchers in the area to raise registered Angus, winning many awards. In his younger years he loved to hunt. Farming and ranching were his life. He loved a good meal, ice cream, chocolate and popcorn.
