Obituary: June Elizabeth Equall (Hug)

June Elizabeth Equall

June Elizabeth Equall (Hug) passed away unexpectedly from a stroke on June 15, 2024, at the age of 81, in Billings, Montana. She was comforted in her final hours by the presence of her family.

June was born on June 5, 1943, to Alvina (Gums) and Arthur A. Hug on their farm in Worden, Montana, where they lived and farmed on the Huntley Project. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Duane Equall, in 1960. Over the years they made their home in Wyoming and various locations around the Billings area before settling on the Equall family farm. June and Duane had many adventures together, the greatest of which was raising their three sons. June was a dedicated farmer’s wife and was skilled at gardening and canning. She played an active role in the family businesses, including bookkeeping and running parts for Equall’s Garage. In later years, she helped to run the combine during harvest on the farm. She was also an avid birder who always kept her binoculars close at hand and made copious records of the comings and goings of birds. A loving mother and grandmother, she doted on her children and grandchildren and found great pride in their achievements.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Duane and her eldest son, Thomas. She is survived by her sons, Randy (Nancy) Equall of Bozeman, and Mike (Jacki) Equall of Seattle, and grandchildren Erin (Logan) Henke, Chase Equall, Taylor Saunders, and Hayli Equall, and sister Joanne (Jim) Peabody of Billings.

A graveside service will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Hardin, MT on July 16th at 11 a.m. with a reception following.
