Obituary: Joanne Johnson

Joanne Marie Johnson

Your wings were ready but our hearts were not.  On Friday, March 5, 2021, we lost our beautiful cherubic angel, Joanne Marie Johnson.  Thankfully for us, there are some who bring a light so bright to the world, that even after they’re gone, their light still shines.  Carl and Catherine Johnson were blessed with Joanne Marie on January 15, 1963.  With her chubby cheeks, blonde hair and green eyes, she grew up on the family farm with big brother Steve.

We, of course, could talk about her schooling, her job as an X-Ray Tech, her love of shopping, estate sales, Kidd Rock, Johnny Cash, her beloved dog Cooper, Big Macs, Sushi, and Coke with extra-extra ice…but her biggest accomplishment by far is her son Jim.

Joanne married Jim’s dad, Dan Shaules, right after high school and to this union Jim and Michael, twin boys, were born.  Unfortunately, this union came to an end.

Joanne was the kindest person to everyone and would do anything for anybody.  Sometimes to the detriment of herself, she put everyone else first.

If you could actually have a green thumb, hers would be the color of beautiful luscious ferns. She loved her flowers and yard and quirky lawn ornaments.

If it was your birthday, the highlight of your day was to get the birthday song, either sung live or on voicemail.  We wish we’d saved ours so we could listen to it every birthday.

Joanne is survived by her parents Carl and Catherine Johnson; her son Jim and his wife Aubourn and their daughter (Joanne’s first and only granddaughter) Emery; her brother Steve and his very beautiful wife Lisa; niece Kayla; nephews Shayne Shaules and Tanner Johnson; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her infant son Michael and both sets of grandparents.

Her friends were countless, and she loved every one of them.  Her book club was a 20-year love affair with good books, great friends and gossip.  Seeing your empty chair will be heartbreaking.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service to celebrate Joanne’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 13, at Heights Family Funeral Home.  Cookies and coffee will be served in the reception hall following the service.  The funeral will be livestreamed here at the time of the service.
