Henry (Butch) Alvin Greene, Jr.
November 3, 1948 – December 18, 2024
Henry Alvin Greene, Jr., 76, of Ballantine passed away on December 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with many illnesses. Henry, known to his family and friends as Butch, was born on November 3, 1948, in Gilroy, California, to Henry and Bonita Greene. At a young age the family moved to Montana where Butch attended Pioneer School in Billings.
In 1967, Butch enlisted in the US Army. As an infantryman, he was deployed to Vietnam. During his service he received two Purple Hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ DVC 60, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, 1 O/S Bar, Expert (Rifle M-14), and Marksman (M-60). He was honorably discharged in 1969. His bravery and honor are something his family will forever be grateful for.
On New Year’s Eve 1970, he met the love of his life, Dianne Baum. On July 3, 1971, they were united in marriage. To this union they were blessed with three daughters: Wendy (John) Nelson, Billie (Chris) Schaff, and Amy (Wes) Frye. Butch worked alongside his father-in-law on the family farm in Ballantine until he eventually took it over. He was a master of fixing things and could make anything you could imagine. He spent his days working on equipment, feeding calves, and irrigating his corn, beets, barley and hay.
As a proud father of three girls, he spent many of his days supporting them at all of their activities. Rodeos, 4-H, and sporting events kept him busy and cheering in the stands. He was their greatest fan.
After retirement, he was able to do some traveling as well as cheer on his grandchildren and great grandchildren at all of their activities. He was so proud of each and every one of them. He was loved by all, respected by many and had the funniest wit. He loved to joke and found joy in getting his grandchildren and great grandchildren to “pull his finger.”
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Dianne; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy (John) Nelson, Billie (Chris) Schaff, Wes (Amy) Frye; eight grandchildren, Jade (Jake Berg) Nelson, Kayla (Kyle) Knight, Alex (Emily Prather) Nelson, Logan Schaff, Kyle (Amanda Benjamin) Schaff, Tyler Schaff, Riley Frye, and Aubrey (Trevor) Holcomb; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Ronnie Greene; two sisters, Donna (John) Horton and Nancy (Larry) Sauter; as well as numerous family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, George and Martha Baum; one brother, John Greene; and other cherished family members.
His celebration of life will be held at 11am on Friday, December 27th, 2024, at Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden, officiated by Pastor Robert Shy. He will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Cemetery in Ballantine. A gathering at the church will follow internment.
Memorial suggestions are to Bethlehem Congregational Church, Worden Ambulance & Fire Dept., and Worden VFW.
