MISSOURI BREAKS — Daniel Levi Johnson age 62 passed away Friday Aug. 31, 2018, in the outdoors that he loved. Dan was born in Greybull Wyoming on March 8, 1956 to Bernard and Inez Johnson. Dan was the second oldest of six children.
Dan grew up in the small farming community of Burlington Wyoming in the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming, where he learned to love the land through working it. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1974, throughout high school Dan excelled in football, and basketball being named an all-conference and all state athlete. That passion stayed with him throughout life. Dan was also an avid Elk hunter that started hunting with his dad and brother Brian at age 14 and it remained a large part of his life, and his family’s life to this day.
Love and marriage came nearly 33 years ago to his sweetheart Shari Bowen who took his heart and hand bringing Tucker, Kelsey, and Kaycee to their family. His love and devotion to them never wavered.
Professionally Dan attended college at Ricks College in Rexburg, ID and Utah State University in Logan, Utah Where he received a bachelor’s Degree in Ag Economics. Agricultural lending and personal ventures in the ag industry were the prime part of his life allowing him to live and work in an industry that he loved and grew up in. in recent years he worked at Yampa Valley Bank, in Craig, Colorado often commenting on his love for his coworkers, the bank management and Craig itself. Dan, feeling the need to be closer to his wife and family, he took a position as an Ag Lender at Garfield County Bank in Jordan in March of 2016. Where he became close friends with coworker Jason Nordlund, who he talked about often.
Dan loved God and had a personal relationship with him. His membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was a choice he consciously made, not a tradition. Serving a mission for the church in Arizona Tempe mission, he was able to testify of his knowledge of Jesus Christ and bring many others to love Christ and join the Church. Several mission companions are eternal friends that have remained close through the years that are held in reverence and looked up to as examples. This was one of Dan’s treasured life events.
Dan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shari (Bowen), son Tucker, daughter Kelsey (Kenyon), and daughter Kaycee. Parents Bernard & Inez Johnson, brothers, Brian (Rita), Dale (Cindy), Barry (Leisha), Dave (Cheryl) and one sister Terri (Greg). And many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Many thanks go to the Phillips County Sheriff’s Department, US Fish & Wildlife officials and the many hunters and campers in the Missouri Breaks who aided in the search for Dan.
A viewing will be held Friday Sept. 7, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel, 925 S 27th Street, Billings MT. A Funeral service will be held Saturday September 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 912 Wicks Lane, Billings Montana. Graveside services will be held at the Burlington Wyoming Cemetery at 4 p.m.
