Too many people today ask what has happened to our country!
When I took civics in catholic school in the fall of 1960, our teacher was our baseball coach Mr. O’Brien. All of our other teachers were Christian brothers. I distinctly remember our civics instructor tell us that Senator Joe McCarthy had died of a broken heart. I remember he also told us that there were many communists and communist sympathizers in both the government and academic institutions.
We must remember that the left wingers in the 1950s were able to muzzle Joe McCarthy and come up with McCarthyism as a negative pejorative. We must remember not all Senators voted to censure him. To me they were the true patriots! It truly bothers me when conservatives use McCarthyism as a negative pejorative today.
