Montana Senator Jon Tester yet to Endorse Kamala Harris for President

Weeks after President Biden’s dismal debate performance, Montana Senator Jon Tester was quiet to publicly call for President Joe Biden to step down. It was only until last week that Senator Tester started publicly encouraging President Biden to step down after pressure from other top Democrats had already been calling for him to step down in the news.

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would be stepping down in his quest for re-election. In his letter he sent to news organizations, supporters, campaign staff and others, it stated, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote.

President Joe Biden did not immediately endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in his initial letter he sent out but soon after endorsed Kamala Harris on Sunday afternoon on social media.

According to News Nation Now on Sunday evening. As of 10 p.m. on Sunday, 531 delegates had already pledged to support Harris as she needs 1,986 delegates to secure and clinch the party nomination in their party’s upcoming national convention in Chicago.

Other top Democrats like Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton were quick to endorse Kamala Harris on Sunday.

However, Montana Senator Jon Tester has not yet endorsed Kamala Harris for President. According to an LA Times article written in 2015, Jon Tester endorsed Kamal Harris in her bid to her Senate race in California as he was the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee at the time. However, Montana Senator Jon Tester, has not yet publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for President.

Tester is facing a tough re-election race against Republican Tim Sheehy in the Montana Senatorial election race. Currently, all Montana statewide offices are currently held by Republicans and the other Montana US Senator is held by Republican Steve Daines. Republicans US Congressman Matt Rosendale and Ryan Zinke hold the current offices in Montana. Republicans on the national level say they feel that Jon Tester is vulnerable due to the national climate with the Democrats focusing on who the eventual Democrat nominee will be. Shuffling and positioning among the Democrat Party is underway as the party delegates prepare for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19 – 22, 2024.
