McNiven Meanderings: The calm before the storm

Jonathan McNiven

Folks, this is the calm before the storm for the election season is ending. In fact, it kind of feels eerie to a point as this is our edition before the election. I feel good about Trump winning BUT I felt that way as well when he lost in 2020, so I’m not sure what to think. However, I’m trying to be data driven and not emotionally driven. I’m also preparing myself to be disappointed as well just to be safe. However, I’m trying to look at the data which shows that Sheehy is up by good margins in Montana, and Montana is looking good for Republicans in general. On a national level, it will come down to the five or six swing states. Let’s hope and pray it all breaks Trump’s way.

Here’s the way I see it. If Trump wins, there will be about half the country protesting and chaos will start up again like the last time he was in office. If Kamala Harris wins, we will all think the election was stolen again. (That last part was typed tongue in cheek for your humor.) BUT if Kamala gets elected this election, I will basically understand that our country is in real trouble, not because Kamala is in charge but because the common sense of the American people will have gone out the window and now it’s just a matter of time.

I’m sensing that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg here as the sentiments of the American people. I’m sure it will come down to the economy, border security and our sovereignty as the United States.

So, if the polls are right and the sense of America is what I’m thinking, it will be a good win for the Republicans. Well…., at least here in Montana. Only time will tell on the national front and the presidential election. If Trump does not get the majority in the Senate and US House, then he will probably get impeached and some other avenue will be taken to hinder any progress he wants to make during his administration.

So, I hope, this election is like 2016 and the silent majority shows up in huge numbers so that there is no question what the American people think and want. I hope it’s so big a landslide that the American people send a mandate to the rest of the world what we think.

Now, for someone who has come within inches of being assassinated, jailed with frivolous lawsuits and verbally tortured in the public eye for the last eight years, I can’t see any reason why the man above is not preserving him for something great. Am I wrong?

I’m including my picture with the iceberg with this week’s column in hopes to foreshadow what I’m feeling as I hope I’m one of the silent majority that has not given any results to the public polls.

If I’m wrong, time will tell if I’m out of touch with reality!

In the meantime, see you in the paper and listening to YCN Sports this week as tournaments are starting.
