Well, Folks, I’ve had a lot going on the last couple weeks, but I want to take this week to focus on the Big Sky Speedway. Last year, I got hooked on going to the car races as I was invited to go as a guest and now I go every weekend. It’s located 16 miles north of Billings on Highway 87 going to Roundup. I’ve taken my kids, friends and locals as many of them have never been to the races before. It’s been fun to enjoy a local event each weekend during the summer time.

I’m usually doing something all during the daytime, but then it cools down at night which makes it for an awesome night with the family and friends watching car races. Usually there are four or five different classes of cars that race each night. They are compact sport cars, legends, modifieds, sprints and midgets. If you’d never been to the Big Sky Speedway, you owe it to yourself to go check it out.

The racing schedule for the rest of the season is published in our newspaper each week. Typically, races start at 7 pm with the different heats. Then there is an intermission for about 20 minutes to get the track ready for the finals which start about 8:30 pm in the evening. Then it’s off to the races. It can get loud, but it’s pretty cool to watch the locals take on others from outside of the state. As the racetrack is considered the fastest racetrack in Montana, it’s also sanctioned for certain races during the year when big races occur. In fact, there are some big memorial races coming up. This weekend is the ASCS Sprint Cars, Sport Compacts, Legends and Wingless Sprints racing so bring the family and enjoy some family time at Big Sky Speedway,

Oh, and get this, kids 60 inches or under get in free.

I’d like to see what can be done to have a special Free Family Night next year sponsored by Yellowstone Family and Dig It Days. I’ll keep you posted for next year.

In the meantime, see you in the paper.
