Did You Know Them?
Well, Folks, last week’s paper was our Christmas Edition as this week is our “Lives of Yellowstone County” special edition. This is our 3rd time we’ve done this special publication and paper honoring, remembering and reflecting on those who have passed away this last year 2024. We chose to start this special edition three years ago for a number of reasons.
First, it allows us as a community to honor and remember those who came before us and read about some of the things these individuals did during their lives to help, raise, support, create, educate, build, lead and represent.
Second, this special publication allows the opportunity to recognize names, individuals, families, generations, dynasties, industries, and our culture to reflect on how these individuals contributed to society in one way or another whether directly or collectively.
Third, the creation of the special edition allowed some of our readers, subscribers, community members, spouses, significant others, children and close loved ones to write about someone that was special to them. It allows some closure for loved ones as they think and write their feelings and emotions of a loved one on a personal level. I was thanked for this special edition as one submitter said it allowed the opportunity to express in writing how one touched lives on a personal level.
Fourth, this special edition allows our staff a little break from the minutia of a weekly newspaper deadline during the Christmas and New Years.
To my delight, we had 25 submissions this year compared to 14 last year so thank you to all those who submitted and contributed to our Lives of Yellowstone County! Depending on how much space we have in this edition, we just might postpone our Year in Review edition for the next week. I guess we’ll see how it ends up as I’m writing this before putting the paper together today.
Until then,
See you in the paper.
