Lockwood Lion Set in Place

Early Friday morning crews moved into place an iron statue of a lion that is the mascot for Lockwood High School. Three times larger than the real thing the figure was fabricated at Montana Iron Works. It weighs 3500 pounds.

Early Friday morning crews from Montana Iron Works brought Lockwood’s iron sculpture of their lion mascot to Lockwood High School. These fifth graders watched the installation with great interest knowing the day will come when they will walk through the front door that will now be guarded by the lion mascot. The placement of the mascot marks the final finishing touch to the newly built Lockwood High School. Jon Ehresman of Montana Iron Works said that the installation went smoothly and even before their crew was gone people were posing before the lion and taking pictures. “It was very well received,” he said.

Fabrication of the lion took about two months and was done by Dillon Robertus, owner of Montana Iron Works, and welder –fabricators, Ridge Rosekelly and Nick Unger.

Hogan Crane helped position the lion, and Rock Solid Excavation shipped it from Montana Iron Works shop in Laurel.
