Johnson Lane water main coming online

The Johnson Lane/Highway 87 E. water main extension in Lockwood is nearing completion. Last Wednesday, the Lockwood Water and Sewer District Board (LWSD) approved a pay application from KLE Construction, the firm building the line, with the report that there was only 40 feet of line left to be built. There is paving to be done after that, and it is hoped that the weather will remain nice enough to allow that to be done yet this fall; otherwise, it will have to be done in the spring.

The extension of the line is opening opportunities for residents along the route to connect, and LWSD Manager Mike Ariztia said that he has had inquiries from people wanting to connect to the system.

The line extension will serve the district’s second water sales station at Prairie Drive.

The LWSD board members discussed at length what kind of building they want to place at the new water station which will be located  at Prairie Drive. Ariztia has received three proposals from different companies for a 10 ft. by 18 ft. building to be made of block, concrete or precast, expected to cost about $170,000. They hope the site can be developed, and the building installed sometime this coming summer. It was suggested that they allow Lockwood students to paint murals on the building, since the experience in Billings entities which have allowed murals to be painted on buildings, has reduced the level of graffiti.
