ICE Agents Build New Facility; Construction Activity Stirs Rumors

Rumors have been rampant around Billings the last couple of weeks about the federal government building a processing center in Billings to deal with illegal aliens. Some aspects of the rumors began almost two years ago, and nailing the rumors down has been a challenge, but indeed ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is building new offices at 1711 6th Avenue North in Billings, which includes at least two detention cells. The facility will process non-citizens alleged to have committed crimes as they await proceedings.

ICE functions under the umbrella of Homeland Security.

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen while a guest on the Aaron Flint Montana Talks radio program, last week, was asked by a caller about the rumors, and he verified that there was some kind of facility being built. He, too, said that getting information about the project was difficult, even for state officials. Knudsen pointed out,  though, in talking to Aaron Flint, that the federal government isn’t too inclined to communicate with Montana State Government because “we are suing them all the time.”  Over the past year, the State of Montana has either initiated or joined other states in numerous suits challenging a number of mandates issued by President Biden.
