Dear Editor,
I was at the Big Sky Worldview forum this weekend with Heritage Foundation Scholar Jay Richards, author of many books, including, The Price of Panic, which addressed the devastation of COVID lockdowns and “Money, Greed, and God—Why Capitalism Is the Solution and Not the Problem”.
When asked if he thought Washington could be reformed his short reply was no… probably not until we have a fiscal collapse. Although not an exact quote, it is very close.
I don’t believe we have to have an economic collapse to see our country turn back to the limited government the framers envisioned.
The solution is Article V, a state-driven process to propose amendments to term limit self-interested politicians and put congress on a fiscal diet that will force sane financial decisions. The Article V convention of states will put Washington on notice that we will not be ruled by Presidential executive orders, 9 men in black, or an imperial congress who destroy our inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Rob Natelson—one of Montana’s own—is the nation’s most published active scholar on the constitutional amendment process. He was Professor Law at the University of Montana for 24 years, and is now Senior Fellow in Constitutional Jurisprudence at the Independence Institute in Denver and a columnist for The Epoch Times.
During the 1990s and early 2000s Rob defied UM’s left-leaning tilt to become the acknowledged leader of the Montana conservative movement, introducing school choice to Montana and leading hugely successful ballot campaigns to limit taxes and trim government.
Since leaving UM in 2010, he has become one of the nation’s best-known constitutional scholars, and his research has been cited repeatedly by Supreme Court litigants and justices, including Justices Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito.
Come to hear Robert Natelson, the nation’s foremost scholar on the amendment process under Article V of the United States Constitution. The solution is not in Washington. At this event, Professor Natelson and I will explain how the solution to Washington’s dysfunction is in the state legislatures. We can all be a part of the solution to save America.
Come see Rob Natelson and and I present at the Convention of the States Seminar at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 328 Shiloh Rd., Billings, MT, on Sept. 23 at 7:00 PM.
Sen. Tom McGillvray
