Changes to Transportation Plan Get Approved

by Evelyn Pyburn

Amendments to the 2022-24 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for Yellowstone County were approved by Yellowstone County Commissioners on Tuesday. The proposed amendments must now be approved by the City Council of Billings, before going to the PCC (Policy Coordinating Committee) for approval on April 18.

Most of the amendments to the TIP deal with cost increases or shifting costs from one year to the next, said Scott Walker of the City-County Planning Department. The changes will add $6.3 million to the overall TIP, which is a short-range scheduling and cost plan for all highway and transit projects in the county that are financed through federal funds.

The amendments provided for changes in the Billings Bypass but none that will create any delays in its schedule, said Walker. He noted that the Five Mile Road portion of the Billings Bypass is “basically completed”, but there are costs adjustments being made to the Railroad Overpass and the Johnson Lane Intersection portions of the Bypass.
