Call for the return of Krayton Kerns

With Krayton Kerns’ decision to retire from his Weekly Ramblings of a Conservative Cow Doctor column here at YCN, he left a hole not easily filled. His views may have been at times controversial, but he developed a loyal reader base not many in the columnist world are fortunate enough to gather. With many reaching out to the paper calling for his return until at least the end of the 2020 election, and others throwing their names out as possible replacements, here at YCN we have decided to leave the decision on whether or not to return completely up to Mr. Kerns.

Kerns says the major factor in putting an end to his column was the constant pressure of a weekly deadline compounding with his already full plate of daily duties. In the end, something had to give and Krayton felt that it would be better to end the column instead of spending less time on it and releasing something every week that he wasn’t entirely happy with. Kerns says that he carefully chose every word and every phrase that he wrote into his Ramblings and it would have been a disservice to his readers if he was to give it less of his time.

Krayton has been happily bombarded with thanks and well wishes not only from letters to the editor here at the paper, but people calling or approaching him on the street to thank him for his contributions and lamenting the loss of his outspoken voice. He mentioned one legislator he used to serve with in the Montana House of Representatives that said they were sad to see him go, but understood that the pressures of a weekly column were “like owning a milk cow” in that you have to deal with it multiple times a day, seven days a week.

The sense of relief and the satisfaction of a finished job didn’t come to Krayton as he has expected it to. He spoke about the fact that he already misses his Ramblings and feels as though he has walked away from a serious battle. Already the wheels are turning in his mind, possibly pushing him back into the fray. As Krayton said towards the end of the interview, “I feel that there is more that I can do to advance the cause, which is liberty.”

Whether or not this drives him to return to his column or not shall be seen, but however it plays out we here at YCN wish the best for the Conservative Cow Doctor.
