Brown’s Position Lacks Clarity

Dear Editor:

Responding to Mr. James Brown’s denigration of a Convention of States in last week’s Yellowstone County News.  Mr. Brown believes the problem with our federal government can be solved if the states just really start to enforce the Constitution now.  Some additional information is needed.  Article V of the US Constitution provides two means to amend the Constitution.  Two-thirds of the Senate and two-thirds of the House of Representatives can propose an amendment.  Or two-thirds of the states(34) can pass a resolution for a Convention Of States to propose amendments to the Constitution.   It is not a “constitutional convention.”  In either case, three-quarters of the states(38) must adopt the proposed amendment(s) before it becomes part of the US Constitution.

Mr. Brown fears a “runaway convention.”  Do you believe that 38 states would ratify something stupid like a proposed amendment to make the President serve for a lifetime?

Do some research: 1) you can read the resolution already adopted by 19 states, 2) read information online at conventionofstatesaction.com, 3) read what Prof. Robert Natelson has to say about the US Constitution and a Convention Of States.  Natelson is a recognized expert on the US Constitution.

1) We have an oppressive overbearing federal government.

2) A government that ignores the Constitution.

3) Ignores its fiscal responsibility by printing trillions in fiat money.

4) Ignores the laws regulating immigration.

5)The President ignores our sovereignty regarding climate change; ie the Paris Accords.

6) The President threatens our sovereignty in public health by submitting to the WHO.

According to Mr. Brown, all we have to do, as states, is “really start to enforce the constitution.”

Good luck with that.
