Yellowstone County Sheriff, Mike Linder is recommending citizens come forward if their pet has passed under suspicious circumstances.
As of Saturday, there have been two dogs that were submitted to a local Veterinarian for necropsies which revealed that one dog proved to have died from other circumstances, and the other remains undetermined until the toxicology report comes back. This could take a couple weeks. They have sent specimens from some of the dogs in question to two different labs. One lab was able to test for a common poison, but none was detected.
Linder said, “We are still following up on these calls.” I would recommend that if someone believes their pet has died as a result of foul play, they contact their veterinarian. We are trying to determine a pattern to see if we are investigating a criminal act by someone. We do find in some cases where animals may ingest something that they either die from, or it makes them very sick.
Sheriff Linder said, many of these cases are purely accidental. Regardless, if they find a common denominator, authorities will follow the leads. If the Sheriff’s Dept. and/or Animal Control do not hear about a pet passing under suspicious circumstances, then they cannot investigate. So, please if you feel your pet has passed under the above circumstances, contact your vet and local authorities.
