Commissioners to Name Replacement for Legislative Resignation on Tuesday

by Evelyn Pyburn

Yellowstone County Commissioners will conduct interviews of candidates, on Monday morning at 10 am, to replace Rep. Mallerie Stromswold (R), Billings. Stromswold resigned her seat in the Montana State Legislature House District 50, just weeks after assuming office. She cited as reasons: “logistical challenges” and “significant backlash” for sometimes voting contrary to her party.

After conducting interviews of three candidates, forwarded as recommendations by the Yellowstone County Republican Central Committee, the county commissioners will vote to select one of them to take Stromswold’s position, on Tuesday morning, during the regular weekly meeting of the county commissioners, 9:30 am, third floor of the Stillwater Building.

People interested in being considered for the position were to submit applications by 5 pm last Tuesday. After the Central Committee Executive Board reviews the submissions, an abbreviated list will be asked to participate in interviews on Thursday. Newly named, Central Committee Chairman, Jeff Essman, said that through those interviews they will narrow down the number of candidates to three, whose names will be forwarded to the County Commissioners.
