City Council Agrees to Water District Settlement

The Billings City Council unanimously approved, Monday evening, the agreement announced over a week ago by the Heights Water District to pay their $2.9 million water bill.

The Heights Water District will consider the issue following public input at their meeting on April 13.

In negotiations between committees representing their respective entities, the City dropped interest charges of $34,347.55, with the District’s agreement to pay the $2,970,599.35 that accrued because of undercharges by the city, between February 2015 to December 2017.

The city miscalculated charges to the District during the process of changing over their billing system.

Since it was first billed in April 2019, the payment of the bill has been a point of contention between the city and the district, as well as among members of the Water District Board.
