35 mph to be implemented on Highway 87 through Lockwood

The results of a speed study on Highway 87 as it enters Lockwood from the Lockwood interchange have been received by the Yellowstone County Public Works Department from the Montana Department of Transportation.

Public Works Director Tim Miller said that the study was requested in 2017. The results recommend dropping the speed limit from 45 to 35, said Miller, since 85 percent of the drivers tend to drive 35 miles per hour rather than 45 miles per hour.

The impacted stretch of Highway 87 E is  0.51 miles between the North Frontage Road and the intersection with Old Hardin Road.

The Montana Department of Transportation will install the replacement speed limit signs.
