3 collisions in ten minutes end with death of a child

Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4:48pm, a Honda Accord heading north collided with a utility van also traveling north on South 32nd St. W. The rear end collision occurred in the northbound lane approximately 100 yards north of the crest of the hill. The Accord was driven by a 19-year-old male with three male passengers, 18, 18, and 20 years of age, all of whom are from Billings. The utility van was driven by a 53-year-old Billings man. There were no injuries.

Just ten minutes later, a Honda Acura TSX travelling south on South 32nd St. W was struck by a Chevy Uplander, also travelling in the southbound lane. The rear end collision occurred in the same area of the earlier north bound collision. After being struck, the Acura proceeded South on South 32nd W and collided head on with a GMC Yukon travelling north in the northbound lane near the entrance to City Towing.

The driver of the Chevy Uplander is an 83-year-old female from Billings who was not injured. The driver of the GMC Yukon is a 17-year-old male from Billings with a 15 year old female passenger from Billings. They also were not injured.

The driver of the Honda Acura, a 29-year-old female from Billings, and her three child passengers were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The children’s ages were two five-year-old males and one six-year-old female.

One of the five-year-old males died in a Salt Lake City hospital yesterday afternoon from injuries related to the crash. Identification of the deceased is pending autopsy.

All three collisions are being investigated by the BPD’s serious injury/fatal crash investigations team. At this time, no additional investigative details will be released. Nor will we be providing any medical status updates unless there is another related death.

At this time, there have been no citations or arrests made in any of the three collisions. The investigation remains active and on-going.
