Drug deal leads to local shooting

A man and a teenage boy were shot on the 8200 block of Beas Lane in Shepherd early Monday morning over what is purported to be a bad drug deal. The teenager’s girlfriend and the man’s wife and 2-year-old child were also in the home with the wife saying that she had heard loud banging around 4:30am as if someone was pounding on the door with a gun.

Thirty minutes later, an armed man now identified as 40-year-old Greg Johnson came in through the unlocked back door and began exchanging fire with the man. Johnson was accompanied by two others who joined in the firefight whose names have not yet been released.

The man was shot in the right arm, right side of his chest, and in the back while the teenage boy was shot in the arm and one of the assailants appears to have been shot as well.

The three men ran from the home and jumped into a vehicle with bullets still flying behind them, striking the vehicle as they fled.

The man was airlifted to the hospital as the teen was taken via ambulance with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Johnson was taken into custody at his home in the Billings Heights with no further incident around 2:30pm that day after the victim named him and described his vehicle.

According to Johnson, he had agreed to go to the man’s home to confront him about a previous drug deal. He now sits in the Yellowstone County Jail on a $125,000 bond on multiple charges.

A second man who has not been identified as of press time was arrested around noon the next day at him home on Custer and 2nd St. W. in Billings with what appears to be a bullet wound; the Sheriff’s Office is still searching for the third suspect. No further information has been released about the condition of the two victims.
