HP School decides no new mill levy

by Katrina Larsen

On Monday, Mar. 25, 2019, the Huntley Project School Board, discussed the general mill levy, the Dassinger Property plans, possible metal detectors, issues with WMK & Co. and hired three Principals.

The decision to not run a general mill levy this year was made, but there will be a permissive levy that supports general school maintenance. The permissive levy is run every year. Superintendent Mark Wandle stated that there is a “higher probability that we will have to run one next year.”

Scott Gierke, head of the Facility Department, reported that new LED lighting will be installed on the newly purchased Dassinger Property by Yellowstone Valley Electric Company when the snow is melted. This property will eventually become a designated place for teacher and staff parking and bus parking for tournament games and such at the school.  The school purchased the 2.41 acre Dassinger Property in September 2018 for $156,000 as the land is being leveled and made into a parking lot for a total cost of $234,236.  One of the original Dassinger office/garage buildings was donated to the Huntley Project Museum and was moved to the museum between 2013-2014.  The Museum has since renovated it and included the original Dassinger building in the HP Museum town site.
