Statewide Classified Ad Network (SCAN)
THE PROGRAM
The Statewide Classified Advertising Network (SCAN) is just one of the many advertising services provided by the Montana Newspaper Association. With SCAN, 68 newspapers – 64 weekly and 5 daily publications – cooperate to place your classified ad in 181,542 Montana households. That means your advertising message will reach an estimated 399,392 Montanans in one week!
THE COST
A 25-word SCAN ad costs only $149 (plus $4.30 for each additional word) – a fraction of a cent per household. That’s only $2.16 per newspaper!
Considering all factors – the cost of a 25-word classified ad in these 69 Montana newspapers, plus copying, stationery, issuing checks, postage and modest compensation for your time – your cost to place the same ad individually would be many times that.
DEADLINE
Wednesday, 5 p.m. This deadline is for SCAN and SDAP statewide ads in order to get it submitted in time for the next week’s publications. If we at Yellowstone County News are creating your ad, then we will need your info before the Wednesday date in order to put together the ad and get it proofed/approved before submitting to the Montana Newspapers Association.
TERMS
All rates are NET. We do not bill for SCAN advertising. All payments are due and payable at the time of placement. We accept most major credit cards. If paying by check, please send a certified check or money order. If you choose to use a personal or business check, allow 10 days for check clearance.
AD ACCEPTANCE
All legal ads accepted. Note: Adoption ads must be placed by a placement agency or individual licensed by the State of Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services, Child & Family Services Division.
PLACEMENT
We cannot guarantee 100 percent placement of any ad. It is left to the discretion of individual newspapers to accept or reject ads, according to policies at their newspapers.
TEARSHEETS
The Montana Newspaper Association does not provide tearsheets from each newspaper, but the MNA does monitor publication in all the newspapers and can, upon request, provide a sample tearsheet and proof of distribution.
Statewide Display Ad Program (SDAP)
THE PROGRAM
When you are looking for marketing power, there’s a lot of punch in the Power of Two – two columns, that is! We call it the Statewide Display Advertising Program (SDAP). Each ad is two columns wide by two inches deep, with 2×4 and 2×6 options also available. And, when that ad appears across the state in newspapers large and small, readers really take notice!
And, it’s so easy! Your local participating newspaper can do it all, including designing and preparing your ad. Or, you can call the Montana Newspaper Association and our SDAP specialist will schedule your ad. You provide copy to MNA.

REQUIREMENTS
Two column widths are required for each ad: 3.2″ and 3.7″
There is a limit of the equivalent of EIGHT 2×2 PLACEMENTS PER WEEK
A signed contract is required to receive the discounted rate for placing six or more ads per year. Contracts which are not completed will be short-rated.
Ads must be provided as PDFs with fonts embedded. Send a separate PDF for each size.

Space available for SDAP advertising is limited, and is sold on a first come, first served basis. Order early to assure your desired advertising run dates.
