Mental health service funding awaits provider proposals, Pitman resigns

Following months of very public discord and disagreements regarding Yellowstone County’s funding of mental health services and what that should entail in the future, Yellowstone County Commissioners seem to have decided  that that they will be issuing a “request for proposals” from  health service providers for plans on how best to provide services. Water district looks for new water Operator, Foss responds to Coyle’s resignation letter attacks

With pathogens in the water, the Worden-Ballantine Water and Sewer District conducted their normal monthly board meeting Monday evening while trying to continue to focus on a final plan in tackling the water issues.  At the forefront were the looming water issues that continue to plague the district and community while also now dealing with hiring a new WBYC Operator due to Rick Coyle’s controversial resignation letter, and the way it was distributed.   read more

I quit! Safety and sanity no-longer worth it.

DEAR EDITOR,

Don’t know exactly how to say this but – I quit. Writing THE OUTDOORS column these past five years has been fun, and I love sharing about critters and the outdoors. Couple of years ago political comments were added. This amounted to ‘coloring outside the lines’ meaning I should stick to birds and bees and skip the political stuff. Coyle’s resignation spotlights inept WBYC leadership

Among increasing water issues for the Worden-Ballantine Yellowstone County Water and Sewer District (WBYC) now includes finding a replacement for full-time WBYC Operator Rick Coyle as he submitted his letter of resignation to the board that was effective last Friday, January 3, due to mounting and documented verbal criticism of him, fellow operators, contractors and an old antiquated water system.   read more

City Council saw fresh community representatives sworn in this past Monday evening by Judge Sheila Kolar. 

The singular incumbent Roy Neese was accompanied by the four newly elected Council members: Kendra Shaw, Danny Choriki, Pam Purinton and Mike Boyett. Ranging from conservative to democratic socialism this new line-up brings real diversity to the table. read more

Riley passed away peacefully in the arms of her mom and dad on January 7, 2020. Riley Lucinda Knickerbocker was born on September 13, 2012 to the proud parents Nick and Jessica Knickerbocker.

On February 5, 2015 she became a big sister to her brother Blake who she loved fiercely and will be a big sister to Kassidy due in May. Obituary: Ellen D. Carlson

Ellen D. Carlson

Early Christmas morning Ellen D. Carlson passed peacefully, entering Heaven on the biggest and best birthday celebration of all.  She was born in Billings on February 10th, 1931, to Daniel E. Nelson and Ellen D. Nelson (Flynn).  She was the second youngest of 7 siblings.  She graduated from Billings Central Catholic High School in 1949 and shortly thereafter married Hans Carlson in August of 1949.  They were married for 61 years.  From this reunion a daughter, Christina Lynn, was born, and later a granddaughter, Jena, and then two great grandchildren Ellen and Rylan.  She was proud to have her great granddaughter carry on her name and was excited to finally have a boy born into the family, Rylan.
