In a very short meeting, last Thursday, the Heights County District Board voted unanimously to reject the City of Billings’ proposed water rate increase for the district.
Board members directed Manager Peyton Brookshire to send a drafted letter to the city informing them of their decision.
Several weeks ago, the board received notice from the city stating that the city’s preliminary proposal is for no increase in the price it charges the water district for water in fiscal year 2023-24, but anticipates an increase of 48.8 percent in 2025.
Board President Ming Cabrera said that board members had held phone discussions with their rate consultant, Andrew Rheem with Raftelis.
