Obituary: Stanley Rae Welborn

Stanley Rae Welborn

was born in Garfield County, Montana 6/11/1931 to Bill & Captola Potts Welborn. He went to be with his savior, Jesus Christ on April 3, 2023, at his home in Glenrock, WY.

He was the fourth child, with five more to come along after him. Stan moved with his family to the North Side of the Yellowstone below the Pompey’s Pillar rock in 1934, and grew up on the family ranch. He graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1949.

Stan joined the US Army in 1950 and was stationed in Germany. He loved going to Holland on his R & R. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, and returned to Montana. He attended Montana State for a year, then returned again to the family ranch.

Stan followed his older brother Russell to Alaska and helped build roads on Kodiak, and other outlying islands. He loved operating heavy construction equipment, and helped build the Trans Alaska Pipeline in the early 70’s.

In 1961, he married Carole Collins, and three children were born from that marriage. Stan retired from working construction in Alaska in 1987 and relocated to the lower 48. He enjoyed living in various places, and settled back in Montana in 1996. He was always up for an adventure, and loved helping his brother and sister-in-law with their wild land fire support business. He helped in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina wiped out the Gulf Coast, and made many new friends.

Stan was generous with his food, his holistic health knowledge and products, and was always giving things away to folks he thought needed the help.

Stan had a near fatal heart attack in January 2016, but survived and thrived afterward. He accepted Christ as his Savior after his heart attack. We take comfort in knowing we will see him again. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Cappy Welborn, siblings, Sara, Russell (Susan), Dean (Nettie), Joy (Herman Sian) and Dale (Faye) Welborn. He is survived by his remaining siblings, Don (Patty) Welborn of Sheridan, MT; Jerry (Sandra) Welborn of Dillon, MT; Lynda (Bob) Romers of AZ; his four children, Claudia (Casper WY), Romna (Naveed) of Houston, TX;  Cohen (Jenny) of Houma, LA; and Anthony (Theresa) of Eagle River, AK. He has two grandsons, Cody & Robert Welborn that were his pride and joy. Funeral will be Friday, April 14, 2023 at 1:00pm at Park City Baptist Church, Park City, MT. Burial to follow at Ballantine Cemetery at 4:00.
