In reference to your last week’s story headlined “Huntley Community Club Discusses Gonzales’s Gazebo” covering the March annual meeting: While the board greatly appreciates you covering our meetings, allow me to make a few clarifications.
At our January meeting, the Huntley Community Club board approval a request from Marc and Nicole Larson for them to fund a covered picnic area as a memorial to their deceased son, Taylor Larson. The patio would be near the playground and offers the perfect place for parents to watch their children play and family gatherings. The Larson’s will bring blueprints to future meetings and the board with work with them to complete this Larson Memorial.
At the annual meeting YCN covered the board heard a new “proposal” from Jesse Gonzales for a gazebo where the Gonzales once installed a now defunct fountain. It was discussed whether the Larson and Gonzales projects could be combined into a unified plan, requiring the Larsons’ approval. This now may not happen since the story didn’t include detailed information of the Larson’s earlier request.
In my opinion, they are feeling upstaged by an incomplete story. Gonzales was granted permission to pursue the gazebo idea and find funding. But the board will not help with gazebo funding in current year or two as it has set funding priorities as: trimming trees for safety reasons, installing new playground equipment when weather permits, a west side bathroom and a new pump house. All this requires donations.
The board hopes the community’s generosity continues as we improve the park to make it a safe place for all. Our mission statement is: The Huntley Community Club (HCC) organizes, promotes and assists with projects for the benefit of the local communities. The HCC also governs, maintains and oversees a safe, welcoming, enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing environment for all who visit Barkemeyer Park.
