Keep Your Dogs Secure

Dear Editor,

It is calving season again.  This is a time when the sight and smells of a newborn calf and afterbirth are very attractive to dogs.

Even a well-behaved dog can get a little crazy going after these enticing smells.  However, you need to know that Montana Law, (Mont.Code ANN.81-7-401) states that any dog who “harasses”, (meaning worries, chases, runs after livestock) “may be killed immediately by the owner of the livestock or an agent or employee of the owner”.  No one wants to shoot your beloved pet, but you must take extra care to make sure your dog or dogs are secured.  It is your responsibility to keep them penned up or leashed so please show how much you love them by keeping them safe.   Thank you.
