Officials Assure Murder is NOT ‘New Normal’ for Billings

by Michael J. Marino

Despite recent headlines, City of Billings officials contended at the Feb. 28 Heights Task Force (HTF) meeting that violence and murder do not represent any sort of “new normal” for the Magic City.

“You have over 1,000 public servants who work for you,” said City Administrator, Chris Kukulski. “It’s critical that those employees understand what the priorities are,” and that “they work collaboratively to maximize resources and work together to build a great city.”

In regard to the public safety mill levy, Kukulski highlighted some of the actions staff has taken to utilize the additional revenue. He noted that a peer review study of the entire spectrum of City systems was recently completed. The study made several recommendations for improvements, one of which was to “stop sending the big red truck to every call.”
