Pope Francis is Not Infallible

Dear Editor,

For many years I have called myself a Bishop Sheen Catholic.

I remember watching Bishop Sheen on television during the 1950s. At that time I was attending a Catholic boarding school run by the Salesian order started by St. Don Bosco in the nineteenth century in Italy. I remember some of the Salesian priests warning us to ask God to help us if we ever ended up with a pope who was a Jesuit.

Well, now we are in the twenty first century and we have Pope Francis, a Jesuit. Believe me many laity and Cardinals and Bishops in the Catholic Church are upset about many positions he has taken on religion and even scientific issues. It is important that Catholics and even non- Catholics should realize that anything he has said does not have to be believed as Catholic dogma. Pope Francis has not tried to say anything that is infallible. To say something infallible he would have to have the college of cardinals agree with him. The latest issue of the New American magazine has an informative article about Pope Francis. Basically, what Pope Francis is saying is his opinion and that is all it is! Years ago, Bishop Sheen warned us that we might end up with a bad pope in the future.
