Voters to Decide on Two Ballot Measures

by Evelyn Pyburn

Two issues on the General Election ballot, November 8, are asking for voter input.

One pertains to protecting privacy and the other fundamentally deals with the issue of abortion.

Constitution Amendment 48 would require law enforcement to obtain a search warrant prior to accessing a citizen’s private electronic data.

Legislative Referendum 131 would require that medical professionals perform life sustaining care on any “born-alive infant regardless of their health prognosis or parental wishes.” It is formally titled the “Montana Born-Alive Infant Protection Act”. It was passed by the Legislature along party lines. It is primarily aimed at “aborting” full term babies at birth. Noncompliant providers could be charged with a felony and face up to 20 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
