FEMA Approves Yellowstone County for Individual Flood Assistance

by Michael J. Marino

Several programs are now available to Yellowstone County residents and small businesses that were affected by the 500-year flood after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved Montana’s request for individual assistance.

Some of the programs available to survivors include emergency assistance, crisis counseling assistance, disaster unemployment assistance, and disaster legal services, according to a news release from Carol Garcia, FEMA Intergovernmental Affairs Manager. Also, for residents who do not have insurance and need help with necessary expenses, the Individuals and Households Program (IHP) can provide “financial assistance and direct services,” Garcia wrote.

To apply or learn more, readers can go to www.disasterassistance.gov, call 800-621-3362, or download the FEMA mobile app for smartphones. Garcia noted that even if residents have already submitted a report through other agencies, they “will still need to begin a new case and file information with FEMA.”

For additional information about FEMA’s support efforts, visit www.fema.gov/disaster/4655 or follow “FEMA Region 8” on Twitter.

Garcia stated the deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is August 29, 2022.
