The Billings Outlaws have been dormant since 2010, but now the indoor pro football team is back in the limelight, and so is one local up and coming broadcaster, Anderson McNiven.

McNiven was invited to co-host the Outlaws’ first pre-season game in 12 years – which they won by a whopping 64 to 20 – on local ESPN 105.5 FM radio. It was local attorney and part-time broadcaster David Sibley that sent the invite.

McNiven, a freshman at Huntley Project High School, said the invitation was an honor for him, because broadcasting on a major network like ESPN is a “big deal.” He said he has broadcasted over 75 high school games, including three state championship tournaments over the course of three years.

For Sibley, it’s about paying it forward. “My intention was to give [Anderson] an opportunity that may not have come otherwise,” Sibley tells YCN. Sibley’s childhood dream was to be a broadcaster, but noted that life got in the way of that for him.

He went on to say that Anderson is welcome to come back and host the Outlaws broadcast again any time, adding this: “It’s kind of [Anderson’s] show, [he] can do with it what [he] wants.”

Anderson replied he would love to, adding “I think it’s a great platform to progress on and a great opportunity to get my name out there more.”

The Outlaws’ next game is set for Saturday, April 2 in Sioux City, Iowa.
