Obituary: Linda Maude Cahill

Linda Maude Cahill

Linda Maude Cahill, aged 75, was called home to her Lord November 9, 2021.  She died peacefully at her Billings, Montana home surrounded by her loving family, after a long and valiant struggle against cancer.

She was born Linda Hall in Spokane, Washington, the daughter of Gordon and Fontaine Hall, on August 5th, 1946.  She grew up and attended school in Lewiston, Idaho, and graduated from Lewiston High School.

Linda married Cecil Cahill on January 25th, 1964 in Lewiston, Idaho.  Initially she moved to San Diego, Cecil’s home port while in the US Navy, but after Cecil served his term, they both moved back to Lewiston.  Together they raised two children and lived throughout the Northwest, including Spokane and Lynwood, Washington and Helena, BIllings, Pompeys Pillar and Lewistown, Montana.

During the early years of their marriage, Linda devoted herself to raising their two children.  She was a dedicated and involved parent who always sought the best for her family in all things.

Linda worked outside the home periodically while her children were growing up, in particular as a bookkeeper for Brown’s Sports Center in Helena, MT.

Starting in 1984, Linda and Cecil jointly opened, owned and operated Blue Ribbon Sports and Surplus in Billings for a number of years before finally moving to Lewistown, Montana.

In Lewistown, she first worked at Don’s Sporting Goods, but her talents were quickly recognized and she was made the manager of newly opened Captain Bob’s Surplus, which under her leadership became a popular and well-known local retail store in downtown.  She managed Captain Bob’s for almost 20 years.

Cecil passed in 2003 after a long illness, and Linda retired and moved back to Billings to be closer to family.

Linda will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and was an integral part of the lives of her close family.   She gave generously to charity and was an active and enthusiastic supporter of Boy Scout Troop 77 of Billings. She always gave fully of herself in everything she did.  The love and support she showed to her grandchildren was tremendous and helped shape their lives in so many ways.

She is survived by son Tim and wife Gina of Arlington, VA, daughter Kathy Armstrong and husband Jeff of Billings, MT, and four grandchildren, Scott and Megan Cahill of Los Altos, CA and Grant and Garrett Armstrong of Billings, MT.  She is also survived by her brother Ron Hall of Lewiston Idaho. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Hall.

Linda has been buried in the Red Lodge Cemetery next to Cecil.  The family plans a memorial service in the Spring.
