State Minimum Wage to Increase by Ten Cents

Because Montanan’s minimum wage is tied to the rate of inflation, Montanans will see an increase in the minimum wage beginning January 1, 2021, to $8.75 per hour. The current minimum wage is $8.65 per hour.

Montana adopted the requirement that the minimum wage be raised based upon inflation through a ballot initiative in 2006. Approved by Montana voters, Montana Code Annotated 39-3-409 requires the Montana Department of Labor & Industry to adjust the minimum wage using the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers (CPI-U).
