Montana Paid 56 Million in UI Payments Last Week

The Montana Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) has announced that over 52,000 Unemployment Insurance (UI) payments were issued for the week of May 18 through May 22, primarily providing benefits to Montanans impacted by COVID-19. With a payout of $56 million for that week, in the wake of the re-opening of many businesses throughout Montana, it appears that the full effect of re-opening is not reflected in UI claims as of yet.

For example, in the week of April 27 through May 1, over 57,000 UI payments totaling over $75M were issued. This makes for a reduction in total weekly payouts, but not by much.

DLI anticipates the number of initial claims to continue to decline as Montana moves forward with the phased reopening of the state’s economy.

The figures include regular UI benefits, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits, and the additional $600 weekly Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) benefits.
