Code Red insufficiencies revealed by severe weather

The recent severe thunderstorm in Yellowstone County unveiled a number of points of confusion about the new Code Red emergency alert system that Yellowstone County has been trying to adopt over the past few years.

KC Williams, the county’s emergency coordinator, updated County Commissioners about the confusion and a couple of changes being made by Onsolve, the parent company of Code Red.

Following the thunderstorm, hail from which caused damage to buildings and vehicles, and  killed wildlife,  there emerged considerable media reporting and citizen phone calls to the County Emergency Services department, which made it evident that the public needs more information about it, said Williams. 

First and foremost, Code Red is an additional means of notification being offered by the county. It does not eliminate the many other existing means of notification and information, which the public has long relied upon. “It is meant to be an added information tool,” said Williams, “…a tool that has the potential of growing as the community grows.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
