DEQ tests Worden water; show lower levels of Nitrates

While the Worden Ballantine Yellowstone County Water and Sewer District (WBYC) is keeping their nitrate alert in effect for the time being pending additional test results from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), they have confirmed the nitrate levels in the water have returned below the danger level of 10 mg/L, testing at 7.8 mg/L which is lower even than the testing done last year. For the safety of the public, Gary Fredericks at WBYC says that infants and small children should still refrain from drinking any water in the area as there is the potential for a new spike in nitrate levels, though it will be closely monitored.

At a public meeting at the Huntley Project High School on July 29th, DEQ officials were there to answer any questions the public had related to the information that has been previously released. They have also confirmed that they are in the process of doing testing all over the area to try and determine any nitrate hotspots to try and get an idea of how it came into the infiltration gallery.
