Joy Marilyn Sian received her wings in the early morning of July 3rd, 2019 in the comfort of her home. She was 84 years young.

“Nana” Joy was born May 27th, 1935 to William and Captola Potts Welborn in Billings, Montana. Joy was raised on the Welborn Ranch north of the Yellowstone River, near the Waco dam. She attended school in Custer and graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1953. After high school Joy caught the eye of her bother Dean’s close friend, Herman Sian. The two wed on December 13th, 1953. Together they built a farm and family east of Pompeys Pillar, today known as Sian Land and Livestock. In 1996 Joy and Herman retired to a small farm in Worden.
Joy was a devout woman of faith, devoted wife, loving mother, caring nana, expert seamstress, green thumb gardener and a steadfast citizen of the Huntley Project community. She was a staple at Huntley Project events, cheering on her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. Joy enjoyed working the Worden voting precinct, hosting family celebrations, attending hobby club and monthly outings with close friends. Extended family will always remember her determination and passion to continue the Potts Picnic tradition and her “Marvin Burgers.” We will all miss her infectious smile and warm greetings, which often included a big hug.
Joy had been in hospice care since May, but inspired many with her positive cheerful outlook and unwavering anticipation of heaven. A special thanks to Dr. Timothy Dernbach, Dr. David Christianson, Frontier Cancer Center and Paula and Jessica from Riverstone Hospice.
She is preceded in death by husband of almost 54 years, Herman; brothers Dale and Dean; and mother and father.
Joy is survived by her 5 children, Robin Sian of Worden, Valley Sian of Worden, Bambi (Lenny) Dalke of Worden, Randy (Carolyn) Sian of Pompeys Pillar and Peri (Rick) Martin of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Siblings Russell Welborn of Anacortes, Washington, Stanley Welborn of Worden, Don (Pat) Welborn of Twin Bridges, Jerry (Sandy) Welborn of Buffalo, Wyoming and Linda (Bob) Romers of Mesa, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to the Worden Fire & Ambulance and Special K Ranch.
Services were held Monday, July 8that Chaney’s Event Center.
